Vogue V1714 immediately caught our eye when the latest Vogue sewing patterns appeared on the Sewing Patterns website. The photo shows two cool jackets, type motorcycle jacket. But they are also so chique at the same time! Vogue V1714 Vogue 1714 is a sewing pattern for a close-fitting, lined jacket with a diagonal closure (zipper), wide shoulders with shoulder pads and in two length variations. The jacket is short and the waist is quite high. The peplums are making the jacket cheerful and feminine. Sewing level The recommended sewing level is 'Average', which means that a seamstress with sewing experience can make this jacket easily. It is unfortunately too difficult for a beginner and no problem for an advanced seamstress. There are no pitfalls in this sewing pattern and we actually found it easy to make the sewing pattern. Note: adjusting the zipper if you cannot find exactly the right length ((61 cm and divisible!), is a difficult job. The best thing the buy is a zipper that can be opened from both the top and the bottom. Recommended fabric Vogue recommends the following fabric types for this sewing pattern: gabardine, leather look, denim. In our opinion you can also make this jacket from jacquard fabric, brocade, suedine and twill fabric. Pay attention to the lines if you choose a printed fabric. The print will have to be without thread direction otherwise you will not end up with the diagnostic lines. Choose a sturdy fabric. With a thin fabric, the peplums will not come into their own and the shape of the jacket will not look good. In the future we will certainly make this jacket again from Mylo the unleather! As soon as it becomes available on the market! Notes: We made the jacket from jacquard brocade fabric. This fabric is very nice and sturdy enough, but it does cause the problem that it frayed very quickly. It is wise to finish the pattern parts immediately after cutting with a lock machine. This keeps the fabric intact and will not fall apart quickly. The zipper is not difficult to sew in the front parts, but if you have to adjust the zipper in the length, watch a you-tube video how you can do this best. The instructions are not clear here and if you do not do this correctly, you have the chance that you will pull the zipper out of the zipper every time. It is best if you buy a zipper with exactly the right length. This will be an investment, but well worth it and the eye-catcher of the jacket. Finally: the waist is very high. If you don't like this, try adjusting the sewing pattern. The sleeve ends are a bit 'unfinished'. If you can, put zippers in here or finish them with an extra cuff. Summarized:
The beautiful Vogue sewing pattern V1714 seems very difficult to make, but that is not the case at all. It is a nice, firm, cool jacket but can also be very chic with the right choice of fabric. The fit is nice and you can walk around all day with this jacket, just like with a leather motorcycle jacket. A new favorite? Sure ! But we will come back to this sewing pattern, through a guest blog and because we will also make this jacket in Mylo vegan leather and one in Chanel style! Comments are closed.
