Simplicity 4954 is a very nice sewing pattern for a sporty and modern 'Chanel-style' jacket. We are very enthusiastic about the sewing pattern because it is easy to make and feels great. Simplicity 4954 Simplicity 4954 is a sewing pattern for a lined jacket with multiple variations of front panels and fringes, trims finish. The jacket has princess lines and is nicely fitted. The sleeves are wide and this makes the jacket very young and modern. Recommended fabrics are: Jeans, corduroy, damask, twill, wool, wool blends, tweeds, brocade, satin, velvet (non-stretch!), Linen and linen blends. In the list has been forgotten: Bouclé fabrics. Of course they are also very suitable for this particular jacket, especially as in the example: Model A. and C. You also need: possibly shoulder pads, ribbon, belt, a flower, buttons, lining and inter-facing. You can create fringes yourself from the Bouclé fabric or use purchased fringes. Sewing level: On the sewing pattern we cannot find out what sewing level is expected of the seamstress who is going to make this sewing pattern. We find that strange and disturbing. Our estimate is: average. It is absolutely not a difficult jacket, but also not suitable for the real beginner. Pros:
Cons:
Our jackets: We tried out the sewing pattern and made a jacket in green Bouclé fabric like Model C. and in black-white-anthracite Bouclé fabric like model D. In this last jacket we made bounded-buttonholes, a sewing technique that is suitable if you want a are a very experienced seamstress. Just like the examples, we made the fringes from the Bouclé fabric itself and gave the jackets a very nice 'Chanel-like' look. Conclusion:
Sewing pattern Simplicity 4954 is a very nice sewing pattern and the jacket is comfortable and beautifully numbered. The wide sleeves give a lot of freedom of movement and look young and modern. An absolute must-have! |
