It often happens that you have already bought the fabric and are looking for a sewing pattern. This appears to be the case more often than the other way around. Some seamstresses do indeed first look for a sewing pattern and then buy a suitable fabric. Very sensible, but practice shows that it is often the other way around. You see a beautiful fabric in the store, whether online or at a trade fair and you immediately buy two meters of it. Enough for a jacket .... a Chanel-Style jacket .... ever. And then there is the moment when you want to get started with the material. In this case, take the fabric as a starting point and pay close attention in the description of the sewing pattern that the pattern is indeed suitable for the Two, the Jacquard or the Bouclé fabric.

- summer tweed
- cotton-wool blend
- cotton woven fabric
- summer jacquard
- linen
- scuba or neoprene (very modern!)

This week: Butterick 5712. A "very cute" summer jacket! Reasonably easy to make and perfect for a beautiful summer linen fabric!

Butterick B5712, Semi-fitted, unlined jacket has neck bands, front and back cut-in-one with sleeves, side panels, no side seams, mock front bands and top-stitching.
Sewing level:  Easy
Fabrics: Sateen, Linen, Tweed, Light-weight Broadcloth.
Notions: Buttons, snapes

We love:

• A very cute jacket which is more or less easy to sew.  It is unlined and perfect for a summer jacket, like we made it (pictures under) with the fabric: dark blue linen.
• The bands are lovely to combine and contrast with other colors.
• The jacket is comfortable, loose fitted and perfect to wear casual or modern.

We are a little less enthusiast about:

• The jacket is not semi-fitted but very loose-fitted.
•  The bands and especially the corner of sleeves front panels (picture 3 and 4) are NOT easy to sew. You will need a bit of experience to work this out.
