To claim or not to claim: I say: DIS-claim! Or rather: there is nothing to claim here!
Almost nobody will read this page of my website. That is understandable but I still publish a lot of text. Let's see if you make it till the end of the text. Estimated reading time: at least 15 minutes! Now you know how much time I spend writing this page.
We now live in a digital world where the rules of the game are sometimes not entirely clear. I follow the Charlotte’s Law website closely and make sure that I am well informed about the do and don't s of a blogger.
The PURPOSE of this website:
The purpose of the website with the two accompanying blogs (English and Dutch) is to help the reader to sew a jacket in Chanel-style.
"Chanel style" is the style that was designed by Coco Chanel in the last century and has a specific appearance.
"Chanel style" has a certain allure, way of dressing and nowadays even a kind of lifestyle. (see all books about the style of French ladies).
"Chanel style" is a wide concept. It can be meant specifically the jackets or couture in a specific style, but also a certain way of dressing that is just typical "Chanel".
"Chanel style" within the sewing world is desired: sewing a jacket, dress or skirt with tweed or bouclé fabrics according to the vision and sewing techniques that Coco Chanel invented in the last century.
I also infor the readers about the "Chanel" brand in detail. I do that as an outsider. I have nothing to do with the company. However, history is interesting because it is more than just the concept of a fashion brand. Coco Chanel had a certain vision that resulted in a way of sewing that belongs to the Haute couture sewing techniques. She not only designed the special jackets, but also other clothing that is still very popular today. And timeless.
I have been collecting information about this for years and would like to share it with my readers. I didn't think of this beforehand. The hobby was born and developed into a large website. It started with one jacket and a few nice pictures of it and became more and more extensive in terms of information, photos and experience and knowledge.
I am aware that the "Chanel" brand is a registered brand name and therefore should not be copied or sold as "Chanel". I do not pretend to sew "Chanel jackets" but jackets in the "Chanel-style".
Everyone is free to sew a jacket for their own use and to be proud about it. Or share information. The typical "Chanel-style" jacket is made by thousands of women around the world and each gives it its own twist. You may not call it a "Chanel jacket" because it is only when the Chanel couture house is designed and comes from the sewing workshops, where it is sewn by Chanel couturiers. (With a price tag of which most people faint).
I will never create the idea that the jacket on this website comes close to the quality of real Chanel Haute couture.
Within the sewing world, making special clothing, such as a costumes, a wedding dress or the Chanel jacket, is a challenge for many. It is never and never the intention to make Chanel copies for commercial gain.
A "Chanel-look", "Chanel-inspired", "DIY-chanel jacket" or "Chanel-style" jacket, "French-style jacket" or "The little French jacket" is a jacket that looks like but was made by a hobbyist, semi-professional dressmaker, perhaps a professional dressmaker: for their own use.
In comparison, I would like to mention a few other fashion classics: After all, trenchcoats are not owned by, for example, the Burberry company, the wrap dress is not from Diana von Frustenberg and the A-line skirt is not owned by Dior. All specific items of clothing that have been given their own image because they belong to the classics under clothing and are made and worn in many variations independently of their designers all over the world.
Internet is a large worldwide web where everything is shared. Specifically: from personal photos of self-made jackets, up to and including information about books, sewing patterns or products.
This is the purpose of SewingChanel-Style. There is no commercial purpose and there is no sale.
Copyright
Almost all blogs, texts and photos on SewingChanel-Style are made by me. There are also many photos of me which I allowed to use for my own promotion. The photos are made on TFP basis.
I also use a lot of stock images that are either purchased or from Jumbopic, Pixabay or Freepik.
The photos I use for book reviews or sewing pattern reviews are from the publishers or the sewing pattern companies. Since I write a review about this (and always positive, otherwise I don't write about it at all), I assume they are free to use.
Finally, many photos are from Wikimedia, Common Creatives or Flickr and are also free to use and share.
If I have made a mistake with regard to the rights of the photos, it is explicitly stated on the first page of the website and on the side of all blogs that I will delete them immediately. I would like to stress it out loud and clear.
To share or not to share
I don't mind if photos and information on this website are shared via Social Media. Please mention this website in a return link or text bar below the photo. However, photos may not be used for commercial purposes.
If in doubt: send an email and we'll talk about it. With a cup of damn good coffee ...
Blogs about products
I work together with one sewing machine-onlinestore that makes products available for extensive testing and reviewing. These are returned. If I can keep these, then these are already showroom models. I write a lot of blogs about products because this is essential for a seamstress. Without a good sewing machine it becomes difficult to make a nice "Chanel-style" jacket ...
My test reports and reviews are honest and clear. User-friendly is the most important.
About the price or price developments: I have no influence on.
Affiliate link
The book reviews are linked to Bol.com as I have an affiliate program. However, this does not bring me anything yet, but if I get a free book in the future, I hope the reader will be okay with it.
If a publisher wants to send me books about sewing or fashion, I will be very grateful and will write an (honest) review. And of course link to the page where the book can be ordered.
Our team
I'm talking about "we" and "us" on the website. This is because some seamstresses also want to show their self-made couture or share experiences with sewing patterns. However, they do not want to be mentioned by name and by name. I respect this.
Cookies
I love to eat cookies. But in the digital world, cookies are very annoying. Unfortunately I cannot resolve this. The platform on which the website is built (Weebly) uses cookies. I have processed a warning on the website.
Your Privacy
You can always contact me. I don't do anything with the data that is saved. Except that I ALWAYS answer.
Often the emails are about where a vintage sewing pattern is still for sale, whether I want to handle a certain pattern or I receive an email how much the website is appreciated.
Rarely do I receive a question about whether I want to make a Chanel-style jacket for a person, because most readers themselves are seamstresses, who want to do this themselves.
Of course I do make Chanel-style jackets for family & friends. If you spot an overload of Chanel-style jackets son the streets, I will probably live close ;>)
Any questions?
Just mail us. I can not imagine that you have read all of the above, but should it still be: thank you for your time, and now get back behind the sewing machine, or to the website for inspiration!
