We have already tested Vogue V1714 and turned it into a red brocade jacket. But we definitely wanted to use this sewing pattern an other time more, for other fabrics. We came across a petrol-colored suedine fabric on the Budgetstoffen website and fell in love with the fabric. A nice choice of fabric for this cool Vogue jacket! Vogue V1714 The lovely sewing pattern immediately caught our eye when the latest Vogue sewing patterns came along on the Sewing Patterns website. The photo shows two cool jackets, type motorcycle jacket. But they are so beautiful at the same time! Beautiful shape, beautiful lines and nice finish due to the peplums. Vogue 1714 is a sewing pattern for a close-fitting, lined jacket with a diagonal closure (zipper), wide shoulders with shoulder pads and in two length variations. The jacket is short and the waist is quite high. The peplums are creating a wonderful feminine shape. Sewing Level The indicated sewing level is 'Average', which means: a seamstress with some sewing experience can easily make this jacket. For a beginner it is too difficult and for an advanced seamstress it is no problem at all. There are no pitfalls in this sewing pattern and we actually found it easier to make than it first appears. Note: adjusting the zipper if you can't find exactly the right length (61 cm and divisible!) This is a difficult job. The best deal would be a zipper opened from both the top and the bottom. Fabrics Vogue recommends the following fabrics for this sewing pattern: gabardine, leather look, denim. In our opinion you can also make this jacket from jacquard fabric, brocade, suedine and twill fabric. Pay attention to the lines if you choose a printed fabric. The print has to be without thread direction, otherwise you will not be able to achieve the diagonal lines. Choose a sturdy fabric. With a supple fabric, the peplums will not create the right shape of the jacket. We have opted for a petrol-colored suedine from Budgetstoffen. The color is a bit distorted in the photos and appears light blue, but in reality it is really the beautiful petrol-like color that lies between green and light blue. The fabric turned out to be a very fine fabric for this design. Just sturdy enough but also nice and flexible and nice to work with. Remarks:
Additional: In an old Burda from 2016, number 5, we found another ideal sewing pattern for the beautiful suedine fabric. This jacket is slightly easier to make because there is no zipper involved. It has the same look as the short Vogue V1714 jacket but is more casual. It also doesn't have the look of a biker jacket. The Burda is still available at sewing patterns.nl. Summarized:
The beautiful Vogue sewing pattern V1714 seems very difficult to make, but it is an easy sewing-job. It is a nice, sturdy, tough coat, but can also be very chic with the right choice of fabric. See pictures above: the jacket can be worn both casual and business/chic. The fit is nice and you can walk around all day with this jacket, just like with a leather motorcycle jacket. A new favorite? Sure! An other example; jacket in red brocade jacquard fabric! Comments are closed.
