Vogue 1663; a very nice cardigan

Vogue V1663 is a combination sewing pattern for cardigan, t-shirt and pants. It's homewear but a bit neater than normal sweatpants and a hoody. Depending on the choice of fabric, you could also easily wear the garments for other occasions such as leisure and work.

The sewing pattern does not look that simple at first glance because of the pleats in the back. But it's also suitable for beginners. If you choose the right fabric, it is a fine sewing pattern.

An investment and a musthave, because you will use this pattern more often. The cardigan is very nice, but the pants and the t-shirt are also great basics. The pants have a very wide waistband, which is very comfortable to wear. The cardigan has a fixed belt that is attached to the pleats on the back of the back. So you will never have to search for the belt again. An additional advantage! The pleats give a lot of shape to the cardigan.

Fabrics:
Recommended fabrics for the vest are sweatshirt fleece and boiled wool. However, the fabrics must be stretchable. In the middle range, which means:  stretch (elastic) but not as much as, for example, Lycra. It will be difficult to find a wool with stretch. Therefore, look especially at knitted fabrics or sweatshirt fabrics.

Fleece is often not stretchy and therefore not suitable for this sewing pattern. The vest above is made of thinner stretchy fabric. This makes the cardigan very suitable for autumn.

Pay close attention to the shawl collar because the pleats have to be sewn first. Then iron and lay it open (see photos 5 and 6).

The pleats and the belt are not difficult to make. Draw the pleats in lines on the fabric to prevent un-regular 'stripes'.

Vogue V1663 is a lovely cardigan that is also very pleasant to wear. You can wear it as homewear, but also for other occasions. This is mainly because it is fitted and therefore has a 'dressed' appearance.

Pay close attention to your choice of fabric: this is really important for the standing or falling of the sewing pattern. Choose a fabric with a medium stretch. Not too stretchy, but certainly not a fabric with only 2 or 3 percent elastine.
