McCalls M6441 very casual

McCalls M6441 is a sewing pattern for an unlined short jacket with a zipper. The sewing pattern has two variations in length,  a round neckline and princess lines. It is a nice jacket to wear especially if you are looking for a casual and comfortable look. It is also quite easy to make.

Fabrics:
The sewing pattern indicates fabric advice: use gabardine, wool or double knits for this sewing pattern. We think gabardine is a good choice and we have made the jacket in gabardine. Wool does not seem convenient to us, after all, the jacket is unlined and will not be comfortably with only wool as the outer and inner fabric.
We also think "double knits" would perhaps be a bit tricky. The sewing pattern is ideal for very slightly stretchy fabrics, not for fabrics that are too stretchy or elastic.

Since the jacket is unlined, fabrics such as Bouclé and tweeds are also not recommended.

Suedine, on the other hand, would be perfect again!

Sewing experience:
You can easily make this jacket if you have some sewing experience. Just inserting the zipper will be a bit difficult. The sewing pattern is overall  simple and the instructions are excellent.

Our jacket
We made the jacket with beige gabardine fabrics. The gabardine is just enough strength but is still very comfortable and casual. We have added an extra decorative edge to the zipper because the jacket is a bit bare in terms of finish.
The sewing pattern provides a good shape and the sleeves fit perfectly. You could also make the jacket from a nice print fabric. This will make it look a little more 'dressed up' and more cheerful in appearance.

McCalls M6441 is a simple sewing pattern for a nice casual jacket. Don't expect too much from it. It is fine in terms of shape, sleeves and princess lines. Nothing more and nothing less.
