McCall's is a sewing pattern named: 'Evening Elegance' and it can be found on the web shops under categories: Bridal, Vintage or Cosplay. It is a very versatile sewing pattern and a must-have for every seamstress, Fashionista or Vintage lover.

The sewing pattern offers longer capes, short capes, shawls and boleros. It provides multiple variations. The variations are mainly: lined or unlined, finished with ruffles and  the length and shape.

Recommended fabrics:
There are a lot of fabrics you can use to make these capes:  fur, georgette, chiffon, jersey, lace velvet and crepe. Pay close attention to which type of fabric is recommended for which model. Stick to this because model D is intended for lace, if you make this from other fabrics, it will be less beautiful.

Sewing level:
There is no sewing level is recommended on the sewing pattern envelop. We think that beginners are able to do the job. The models are not that difficult. The difficulty will be more in the choice of fabrics. For example, velvet or lace is more difficult to cut and sew than simple fabrics such as cotton or gabardine. The fabrics that you can use for these models are all special and take a little more time to cut and sew neatly.

Be sure to read our blog: How to handle difficult fabrics! We have a lot of tips & tricks for dealing with difficult substances.

Our sewing project
We have used this sewing pattern before to make capes. (Model A.) This is always a nice gift to give away, especially in the winter months.

For the accompanying photos we have made model B. A short cape of beautiful lace fabric and taffeta silk on the inside. The taffeta is somewhat firmer than smooth silk. This gives the cape a little more 'self-shape'. The cape was easy to make. Because you often leave such a cape open, the lining is a point of extra attention. We recommend to buy beautiful contrasting lining or a nice print. The cape was used for a photo shoot and will be taken to Cosplay and Fantasy events later this year. Capes are ideal for giving costumes an extra touch. The same black lace cape is also ideal for Gothic or Steampunk clothing/costumes.

Summarized:
McCall's M3033 is a must-have sewing pattern for shawls, capes, boleros and short capes. It is versatile to use for bridal wear, evening wear, Cosplay and Fantasy events and of course also for Gothic/Steampunk and casual wear. The results depends on the type of fabric you use and what personal touch you give it.

It is also an ideal sewing pattern for beginners. The shawls and capes are easy to make.
