Are you looking forward to the summer? It is time to make a nice summer jacket you will soon enjoy wearing. Summer cotton Bouclé is an ideal fabric. A Chanel-Style jacket for the colder evenings or just for during the day if you need to look representative. The Burda 8949 is a classic and one of our favorite sewing patterns. Burda 8949 Burda 8949 is a sewing pattern for an unlined jacket in two variations. The variations are in the length of the jackets, the back finish, with or without slits and the sleeve length. It is an easy sewing pattern, but not suitable for the real beginner. Burda states that it is an 'EASY' sewing pattern. Okay, okay, but make sure you have a little help if you want to make the slits or if you have no experience with working with Bouclé fabrics or with loden. Recommended fabrics The recommended fabrics are linen, loden and flannel. In our opinion, you can easily add cotton Bouclé to this list. This sewing pattern is ideal for this kind of fabric. We have chosen a pink cotton Bouclé ourselves. A wonderful fabric that is especially ideal in the summer. If you choose loden: pay close attention to the finish. Spend a lot of time on this because loden fabric always requires a nice top stitch or neat pressing, but especially not too hot. If you choose linen: a good choice! The jacket is short and will therefore not crease easily when you sit down. Perhaps on the back, but because it is an unlined jacket, you can easily iron it. Our sewing project: We have lined the jacket because it is neater if you use cotton Bouclé as outer fabric. We lined the jacket with damask cotton. A very unusual choice that nevertheless pleased us. The fabric is very beautiful and clearly visible when you wear the jacket over the shoulders. However, the fabric is not very smooth and this limits the choice of clothing under the jacket. Because of the princess lines, the sewing pattern is also very suitable to use if you want to process fabric leftovers. The pattern pieces are small and you can playfully use different colors or fabrics. Model A in particular is ideal for this. We chose Model B but left out the splits. I sewed two pockets instead, otherwise the jacket would be a bit boring. Notes: The sewing pattern says 'semi-fitted'. We disagree with this. The jacket is really wide and it has hardly any waist or 'shape'. The neckline edge is quite sober. It is therefore better to wear a blouse underneath or at least a scarf or necklace. Don't think 'a quickie' when you see this sewing pattern. It does look like a sewing project that you can easily make in one day, but that's impossible. If you want to make the princess lines and especially the splits neat, then it really takes you a little longer. In addition, buttonholes and the finishing of the hem and sleeves will be added. Summarized:
Burda 8949 is an easy sewing pattern for a summery Chanel-style jacket. The jackets on the sewing pattern look a bit old-fashioned, but if you choose trendy fashion fabrics, the jackets will be great. Especially if you wear the jacket with jeans or a nice short skirt. You can 'play' with this sewing pattern and make your own additions. The sewing pattern offers a lot of room to make adjustments. Fringes and a nice trim will make the Chanel-style complete, as well as a contrasting lining or a stand-up collar. Comments are closed.
