 As modern sewists explore an expanding world of online tutorials, blogs and instructional videos, the question arises whether traditional sewing books still hold a meaningful place in the craft. Anyone involved in dressmaking, quilting or costume work will recognize this shift toward digital learning. Yet the sewing book — a long-trusted companion rooted in tradition and craftsmanship — continues to offer many makers a sense of structure, calm and enduring value.
 We used to think of richness as abundance — of possessions, wardrobes, and luxury items. But recently, a gentler, wiser understanding has begun to take hold.
For many seamstresses, richness now means having time: time to sew in peace, to create with care, and to take joy in simple, tactile beauty. A tidy sewing space, a beloved sewing machine, and a few cherished fabrics — these are treasures beyond measure. Possessions may fill our closets, but creativity fills our hearts. Do quilts and patchwork blankets belong on a website about DIY Haute Couture and making Chanel jackets? Probably not. Or do they? Well, actually… no. Quilts deserve their own space—a place where they don’t have to compete with shiny buttons, perfect stitches, or the latest fashion trends. A place where it’s all about warmth, memories, and the joy of creating with your own hands. And that place is here: my brand-new website, entirely dedicated to quilts and patchwork blankets!
 Renewal of Vows; The promise of love is something precious. For many, the wedding day is an unforgettable highlight, sealed with vows that unite two people. Yet life is rarely a straight path. Illness, difficult times, or new life phases can lead a couple to reaffirm their commitment: “we still choose each other.”
This is the heart of a Renewal of Vows ceremony – the renewing of wedding promises.  Burda 2493 is a sewing pattern for a historical outfit reminiscent of the era of Joséphine Bonaparte, also known as Joséphine de Beauharnais. The pattern consists of a dress and a pinafore with a long invisible zipper at the back.
Joséphine de Beauharnais, Empress of France, was renowned for her elegant Empire style: a high waistline just below the bust, flowing lightweight fabrics, and a simple yet refined appearance that emphasized her natural grace. The Burda 2493 sewing pattern is a beautiful example of this, as it accurately reflects the characteristic Empire silhouette and the graceful simplicity of the period. It carries the same classical allure that made Joséphine an icon of style. |
