Trims & Fringes & Bindings
Good choices:
The luxurious couture trims: Golden bindings, gold/black, black/white/beige braided, lace silk trims and gallons. The classics: blue/white braided, wool-blends braided, thin straps, special gallons and cotton crochets. The creative wool-blends: fluffy trims, wool blends, wool-color-mix blends, wool fold-over tape trims. |
Less good choices:
Tassel-trims (hmmmm, not very sophisticated...) Fring-knotted (could be nice if matching the tweed) Bullion fringed trims & chainette fringed trims ( leave it to the curtains) |
Advanced ideas: Self-trims, self-made trims and trim/fringe combinations.
Advanced Ideas & Creative Combinations:
Feathery trims, flat or embellished ribbons and ribbons stitched on wool bindings are worth all the effort. Creating a Chanel-Style jacket should be fun and finishing the garment should be a nice creative process. Many seamstress plan the finishing details (although details ?) in advance. We often experience that there are always better and more beautiful ideas about the finish while still we are still working on the construction.
It is advisable always to buy half a meter of fabric and lining extra. With extra fabric and lining you can create creative borders from braids to crochet bindings.
Trims and Fringes can not be unique enough. Be creative and make it as personal as possible. The trims, bindings or fringes should be the absolute eye-catchers. Our preference is for colour-matching the tweeds or bouclé. Most ideal as said would be working with the same fabric to create the fringes. But contrasting colours can also be very beautiful. All depends on the goal: are we creating a more representative jacket or a modern and fashionable jacket?
