With a wide range of stitches, this is the perfect sewing machine for home use including garment marking, alterations, soft furnishings and can be used with fabrics such as denim.
The Quick Adviser is a user guide is located behind the Power FabriQ sign on the machine and can be used while working without having to refer to the user manual for guidance all the time. The unique gliding foot supplied with the machine is ideal for thicker fabrics - it can sew over up to 12 layers of material.
The stitch selection consists of utility, stretch and decorative stitches including a 4-step auto buttonhole, straight and zig zag stitches, blind hem, overlock, serpentine and decorative pattern stitches.
Warranty conditions:
Our Machines are brand new and have 1 year full Matri warranty, so also for possible labor, parts and transport costs to our service center.
There is also a 3-year Toyota warranty.
But beware:
Despite the possibility of sewing extra thick fabrics, this is a real household sewing machine and therefore not suitable for professional and daily use.
Also, if you use even thicker fabric as permitted, the warranty can be canceled.
On needles, bobbins, light and the needle threader is no guarantee!

Our review:
We are allowed to test the sewing machine and we do it with pleasure.
Package and first impression:
The sewing machine is supplied in a compact box. On the box are a lot of interesting symbols and drawings. The box is one to keep. What stands out: the manual!
There is a standard manual in the box (more on that below) but also a beautiful book: The Toyota Workbook. This book is beautifully bound, thick and looks like a glossy magazine. The content is great: all great ideas, tips and instructions. This book is worth gold! The ideas are feasible, realistic and the photos are beautiful and above all: REALABLE! We will discuss this book separately.
The sewing machine is beautiful and sturdy and is very stable. The color is cool. The sewing machine looks like a real professional workhorse. An eye-catcher par excellence, especially if you like the industrial and minimalist style.
Let’s get to work!
1. The cover and the manual:
The cover is a plastic cover. Great to use, but not that beautiful. Time to make one yourself, because this sewing machine deserves a matching cover. Dark gray, black, silver? Or bright red? It will be a nice first project to test the machine with slightly stiffer or thicker fabrics.
The manuals are simple paper pages in A4 format. Languages: a lot, so it is split into three booklets. The manual is busy, but clear. Quite sumier, only a few pages. But the workbook makes up for a lot, because that is one to use, to save and to enjoy. The part of the sewing machine (with Power Fabriq 17 on it) is a flap, which you can open from below. There is a QUICK ADVISOR in the valve. A very small book with schematic drawings. It is a little manual with tips. If you had not read the manual you may never have known this. It is such a small trick in the sewing machine that is really hidden. A nice extra and a big plus! The sewing machine is categorized on the Matri website as suitable for a "medium" level seamstress. In our opinion, a beginner can handle this very well.
2. Voorbereiding:
De naaimachine is eenvoudig op te starten. Stekker van het voetpedaal erin en stekker in het stopcontact. De voetpedaal is eenvoudig maar volstaat. Een stuk tapijt onder de voetpedaal plakken, maakt de voetpedaal zwaarder en stabieler.
3. Preparation:
Winding the bobbin and threading the bobbin thread is easy.
Threading the upper thread is like any other sewing machine.. Fortunately there is a built-in thread insert on the sewing machine, this prevents a lot of hassle.
You have to pick up the bobbin thread before you can start sewing. We recommend that the wires are laid clearly backwards and at least 12 cm long. This prevents you from losing the thread. Also when you finish sewing: lift the lever and pull the fabric back a bit. Then cut the threads. Keeping a thread clipper at hand is also recommended, there is no automatic thread cutter on the sewing machine.
4. Sewing:
The sewing machine has a free-arm option. Always easy for trouser legs, sleeves and fine work.
Sewing goes smooth and excellent. The sewing machine makes a heavy mechanical noise. Not soft and subtle but the sound that really belongs to a mechanical sewing machine. Disruptive? We don't think so. It sounds like people are working creatively, and that's how it should be!

Sewing heavier fabrics such as canvas, leather or jeans fabrics is very pleasant. The sewing machine can handle a lot. Canvas up to 6 mm thick and leather up to 4.5 mm thick and also jeans fabric up to 12 layers thick gives no problems. Use the right yarns and the right needle for the heavier sewing jobs.
The Toyota Power fabriq 17 nevertheless remains a household sewing machine and you cannot expect the sewing machine to do the work of a heavy industrial sewing machine. It is also not wise to sew heavier leather with this machine.
As a test we have made a dog leash from light nylon band, this was great to do, even the ends neatly finished by folding the fabric three times in half.
We have also been working with canvas and texture fabric for a parasol cover and a cover for garden furniture. These jobs can be done very well with this sewing machine and the result gives great pleasure.
Maintenance:
The maintenance manuals do not mention anything about maintenance.

Concluding:
The Toyota Power Fabriq 17 is an excellent sewing machine for when you like to work with heavier fabrics such as jeans, canvas, light leather materials and furniture fabrics. The sewing machine can process these fabrics nicely and the result looks professional. However, the sewing machine is not a leather machine and should therefore not be used for this.
The sewing machine makes more noise than a 'normal' sewing machine, but this is not disturbing but acceptable.
The sewing machine has a few surprising extras such as the manual, the included yarns and the hidden Quick Advisor booklet.
The Toyota Power 17 has a really nice appearance and is one to be proud of. We do recommend that you purchase a sewing machine bag in case you use it. The sewing machine has no handle and is slightly heavier than average. There is a recess in the back: this is the built-in handle.
On the website of Matri and Toyota you can find a lot about maintenance, possible problems and clear beginners manuals. The workbook is a MUST HAVE! Full of inspiration, tips and ideas.
