Couture : The art of fine sewing

Couture, couture and couture.  Roberta Carr loves it and explains a lot.  The drawings in the book are beautiful and makes the readers want to know more and create more themselves.
The book is about how to approach a sewing technique, or a way of accomplishing a particular look.
The book explains the sewing techniques perfectly in every little detail but also tell the reader WHY it should be done this way and why this techniques works best. Sometimes it even provides alternatives.
Seamstresses create beautiful clothing by analyzing problems and choosing from alternative techniques, and then selecting the best solutions to create their version of perfection
. Roberta Carr promises the seamstress to create the couture look they want to achieve on their garments instead of being afraid the results will look a bit hobby-"home-made".  And that's the readers goal....

REVIEWS

okay
less okay
A worthwhile addition to a reference library.
The book is informative and very useful.
Lots of informations and instructions.
Good images to illustrate instructions.
Explanation of the sewing techniques:  very good and clear.
Good resource to keep close in your sewing-studio.

The book is very out-dated and old-fashioned, almost vintage.

Layout and photographs could use an update.

NOTES:
Can a seamstress say that too many intense details are discussed? Yes and no.  Too many details are very good for somebody who really wants to learn new sewing techniques in detail.  Too many are a bit boring or overwhelming if you just want to get it done as soon and as good as possible.

We love the vintage-style drawings. Very beautiful and
worth it to copy and frame and hang in your sewing-studio. Even if you do not use this book;   it is a nice addition to your collection of sewing books.
