Burda 6248
Long Chanel look jacket

REVIEWS

Burda 6248, long lined jacket, semi-width

Sewing level:  MEDIUM experienced

Fabrics: Bouclé, jacquards, wool blends and blends

Notions: Buttons, interfacing and lining fabrics, trims or fringes.

We are happy with:
  • Good shape, for a long jacket it is perfect shaped
  • Suits almost every figure
  • A real eye-catcher!
We are not so happy about:
  • For a medoum advanced seamstress, it is not easy to work with Bouclé fabrics, do not underestimate, ask for help about the basics or look at our page: Sewing Bouclé fabrics
  • in Dutch: Hoe naai je met Bouclé stoffen
  • The sleeves are very tight under the armpits, it will work with a t-shirt or thin blouse.  It will certainly give problems if you are expecting to wear the jacket above a sweater or woolen sweater.
  • The round curved in the pattern and the welt pockets are ADVANCED LEVEL
  • This pattern does not invites you to try the "Chanel couture method by Claire Schaeffer"

Our recommendation:

Take the time to create this long jacket. It will be certainly not an easy project. Read the instructions carefully about the weltpockets and if it is still a bit of a problem, use other information sources like youtube video's or instruction book.

We recommend: Vogue Butterick Sewing Guide

The openings at the sleeve ends are nice but are not looking very 'couture-like' with this kind of fabric.  It might look better with jaquards, not with Bouclé fabrics.

Also we would love to use some buttons which are more 'Chanel-style'
All about Chanel-Buttons

Our jacket:

We use a green wool-Bouclé fabric and changed some things about the pattern.
The pockets are normal and big and we used the self-fringed egde of the fabric for the front. Therefore we did not use Buttons,  but it would be very nice to use real Chanel-look buttons as well on the long coat as shown on the Burda sewingpattern.
