The decline of fabric and haberdashery stores in many Dutch cities and towns is something worth attention. We, semi-professional and hobbyist sewers, find it incredibly regrettable that there are no longer physical stores where you can casually walk in. Places where you can touch the fabrics, wander endlessly, and eventually come home with a stack of 'spontaneous' fabrics. And of course, score some bargains! Because we love that!
Dear Readers, Let me introduce you to MargaStyle.com - the little sister of Sewing Chanel-Style.
At MargaStyle.com, we're all about embracing life in its full spectrum - from the latest buzz in Beauty & Lifestyle (all about those budget-friendly tips!) to diving into the serene world of yoga, celebrating the fabulousness of 50+, and uncovering 'the normal' of the world of models, modelling and photography. What once started as a blog offering advice on how to sew a Chanel-Style jacket has grown into a large platform filled with sewing tips, instructions, fantastic guest blogs, videos, reviews of sewing books and magazines, as well as reviews of sewing patterns. Moreover, it's no longer solely focused on Chanel-Style couture; it has expanded to include Cosplay costumes, Historical and Medieval costumes, Dirndl and Oktoberfest costumes, Victorian clothing, Gothic, Steampunk, and Fantasy outfits, bags, outdoor clothing, and customized clothing for Healthcare & Well-being.
As they say, 'time flies,' and unfortunately, costs tend to grow proportionally. Hosting and especially website security incur substantial expenses, and rightly so, considering the dedicated efforts of the team behind it. Given that Sewing Chanel-Style doesn't operate a webshop or offer workshops, the revenue is limited to Bol.com affiliations and, recently, Google Adsense to cover the costs. Would you like to support us? You can buy us a coffee through the QR code above. Thank you in advance, as these contributions significantly help our sewing projects and blogs flourish! :>)
Ah, the holiday season—the time for twinkling lights, warm cocoa, and those beloved, yet notoriously tacky Christmas sweaters. You know the ones: bedecked with gaudy ornaments, reindeers in high definition, and enough glitter to rival a disco ball. But wait, there's a twist! What if I told you that amidst this sea of 'ugly' Christmas sweaters, there exists a category that defies the norm—let's call them the "beautifully ugly"?
Welcome to the tenth edition of the Rendez-vous littéraires rue Cambon at New York City's Metrograph Theater. In this video, we turn our focus to award-winning writer and essayist Siri Hustvedt. During this event, Siri Hustvedt takes on the task of dissecting the stereotypes surrounding female writers and delves into the modern concept of success. Join us for an insightful exploration with Siri Hustvedt as she challenges preconceptions and reevaluates the contemporary literary landscape. The fashion world is in constant motion when it comes to fabrics, the environment, and the industry. Here are some of the latest developments: Sustainable fabrics:
There's a growing focus on using sustainable and eco-friendly materials. Think innovative fabrics like Piñatex (made from pineapple leaves), Tencel (made from wood pulp), and recycled fibers from materials like plastic bottles. Circular fashion: There's a shift towards a circular approach in fashion, emphasizing reuse, recycling, and waste minimization. Brands are experimenting with ways to produce clothing that can be easily recycled or reused. Digitalization and technology: The fashion industry is increasingly embracing technology, with the rise of virtual fittings, AR experiences for online shopping, and 3D-printing of garments. Transparency and ethics: Consumers are demanding more transparency in clothing production. Brands are encouraged to embrace ethical practices and disclose information about their supply chains. Climate-positive initiatives: Some brands are going beyond reducing their negative impact and striving for a positive environmental impact. This may involve removing more carbon from the atmosphere than they emit or working on restoring ecosystems affected by the fashion industry. These developments showcase how the fashion industry is striving towards more sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly practices, albeit facing challenges and still having a long way to go to implement these changes on a large scale." |
