Sewing a Chanel-style jacket in just one day... Sounds like a sewing fairy tale, right? Now, let's be clear – we're not claiming couture status here. Nope, this jacket is the epitome of chic on a budget. But it is possible! Mc Call's 8540
I have found a sewing pattern for a Chanel-Style jacket that is quite simple for everyone to make. Not only quite simple, but also not very time-consuming. The McCalls 8540! The McCalls sewing pattern is a pattern for multiple jackets and blouses. There is even a variation in a lined jacket and an unlined jacket. The jacket has a front closure with buttons. The collar can be low or upright. I have chosen model B. A simple sewing pattern for a Chanel-Style jacket that you could make in principle in one day. Which fabric is this sewing pattern suitable for? The recommended fabrics are: soft cotton or cotton mixes. Chalis (Rayon), Crepe, silk, jersey, woven cotton, lace or knitted fabrics. Please note: the recommended fabrics are not indicated per model. I assume that for model B (and A), only the non-stretch fabrics apply. The stretch fabrics will most likely apply to the blouse/shirt. With stretchy fabrics the jacket would be much too big. The model is not suitable for this. Sewing level: ‘easy’ The pattern is suitable for the beginning seamstress. The jacket has no pitfalls or difficulties. Sewing with wool felt is very nice. I made the jacket with the Bernina 1008 and finished it with a B64 Airlock lock machine. This allows you to neatly finish the seams, especially if you are making an unlined garment. Great: The jacket is easy to make In the right colour schemes, it can easily pass for a ‘Chanel-style’ jacket The jacket is comfortable and spacious The edges offer the opportunity to be creative; make them contrasting colours or make nice frays. A bit 'not so great': The model has little shape and is not fitted. This can also make the jacket look ‘clumsy’ and sloppy. As a solution to the minus points, I have added pleats to the jacket. This gives the jacket a much nicer shape. If you are a beginning seamstress: ask for help with the pleats, or use a sewing mannequin. You can also decorate the sleeves by making an extra edge with buttons. (See last photo). I used wool fabric. This is a great fabric for this sewing pattern. Simply finish with wool edges and see: a ‘Chanel-style’ jacket in one day! In summary: Mc Calls 8045 is an easy pattern to make a classic ‘Chanel-style’ jacket. The instructions are very extensive and clear. The jacket is ideal for making beautiful wool fabrics, making variations in edges and using beautiful buttons. And make pleats in the jacket: tailor and ‘shape’ to shape it to your own figure! Comments are closed.
